Tokyo

LittleB and I have made it to Tokyo. The plane trip was smooth and ran perfectly to schedule.

Unfortunately the plane was freezing cold for everyone, we all had to cover ourselves with blankets, even our heads and faces. It was uncomfortable in cattle class, neither LittleB or I could sleep at all. The food was terrible, but fortunately I anticipated this and ate two very yummy lamb and vege pies at Sydney airport. They were great, as they should be for $11 each! With my tummy full, I could easily pass on eating the awful dinner on the plane (except for the chocolate brownies), but I was a bit hungry at breakfast time, so I tried a bit of the awful breakfast. It made me feel a bit ill in the stomach, because I only ate a little bit of it. LittleB ate a lot of it though, and it made her feel very ill, upsetting her stomach quite a bit.

That’s the complaining out of the way. The weather in Tokyo is excellent. Freezing, but we were only outside for a little bit when walking to and from the airport shuttle bus. Right now we are waiting for our connecting flight to Zurich which leaves in about 1.5 hours from now. We booked into a dayroom here at the airport where you can pay for a room by the hour. We paid for 1 hour, which cost US$19, though we each only had a shower to freshen up a bit. We used the room for about half an hour. I’ll post photos of the room another time when I can use my laptop, instead of this internet kiosk at the dayroom.

Now I am typing this while LittleB tries to change some money for US$1 to buy a bottle of water. Nobody takes visa for US$1 (yes she tried!).

For those who are wondering, our hand luggage was not weighed, and our bags came in under the 20kg limit. My bag weighed in at 19.8kg (fine packing!) and LittleB’s was in the 18-19kg range. It’s lucky her hand luggage was not weighed though, it’s very heavy.

We have a 12.5 hour flight to Zurich. Hopefully it is more comfortable than the trip here. We only have a short time to change planes there for Stockholm, so hopefully there will be no delays.

Oh, LittleB is back, she found a shop where they sold her a bottle of water using her visa card. She said she had to walk for miles to find it. It cost AU$1.60.

Also, for those wishing to contact her on her work mobile, her work mobile is not working in Tokyo. It is supposed to work everywhere, but it isn’t. If you can’t get through, check this blog or her’s for updates, and send messages through the blog or email. Her optus phone is suddenly working though. Strange, it hasn’t been set up for roaming.

I have to go, my internet time is running out. I’ll update my blog again when I can. We are both fine, LittleB’s tummy is better, she is eating again now. See ya!

Can’t believe the flight was so bad :(

Who did you fly ? and did they apologise ?

Hi Craig,

No the airline did not apologise, it seems it is just par for the course. The airline was Qantas. I hear that business class and above is very good.
